Famed clarinetist, Stanley Drucker, who before his retirement played clarinet with the NY Philharmonic for 61 years, is featured performing Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet in A major, K.516. Also on the program is Mozart’s String Quartet in D minor, K.421. Other musicians are: violinists Eriko Sato and Mayuki Fukuhara, violist Veronica Salas, and cellist Lutz Rath (bios attached). The concert is the final celebration of St. Andrew’s 100th year of serving the Sullivan County community. It takes place in the church, which is wheelchair accessible through the back door.

In addition to Mr. Hartman, other artists include violinists Richard Rood & Claire Chan, violist Jessica Troy, and cellists Eugene Moye & Elizabeth Anderson. This is the 13th year of free chamber concerts at St. Andrew’s, and both Mr. Hartman and Mr. Moye, well-known in the classical music world, have been frequent performers here throughout the years.

Clarinetist Steven D. Hartman is Principal Clarinet of the New York City Ballet Orchestra, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, the Opera Orchestra of New York, and the New York Scandia Symphony, with which he has recorded three solo works by B. H. Crusell. In addition, he is Associate Principal Clarinet of the New York City Opera Orchestra and a member of the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra. He is a former member of the Boehm Quintette and the Music Project Repertory Chamber Ensemble and is a frequent guest artist with the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, and the St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble, among others. He has been a regular participant in the Washington Square and Bard Summer Music Festivals. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he is a graduate of New York’s Juilliard School and studied privately with Kalmen Opperman.
Béla Kovács (b. 1937) is a composer, performer, and professor of music in Hungary. Since 1956 until recently he was principal clarinetist with the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra and the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra.
Chamber Music at St. Andrew’s offers two free chamber concerts each season, performed by outstanding musicians that enrich, inspire, and bring pleasure to Sullivan County audiences. All are invited to come and bring their families and neighbors. The series depends on the generosity of the community, and tax-deductible contributions are always needed.
